Orange Headed Roaches

silversunkiss9 Jul 02, 2003 07:03 PM

I have some questions on these (Eublaberus Prosticus). First, what substrate is best and how and how often does their tank need cleaning? Also, what's the best size rubbermaid or container for them? I'm still deciding on how many I should order (deciding between 30 and 50, I think, but 50 sounds like a lot to start with). I want to order enough that I can feed my geckos some on the first day and still have enough to start breeding.

Also, from what I've heard, orange headed roaches are poor escape artists (I definitely don't want roaches running around my house; I'm getting these because I can't stand crickets which escape too easily so I'm just glad they haven't multiplied yet in my house). Is that true?

Thanks!

Depending on how many geckos you have, I would recommend not feeding any of them out until you have at least 100. You want to have enough to keep a sustainable population, and if you feed your geckos roaches to begin with, that's one less roach to populate into more roaches. You want the colony to reach the point of exponential growth before you start feeding out big time, and the more you start out with, the closer to that point you will be.
