Being farily ignorant about boas, I have a question.......

SnakeGuys.com Dec 16, 2004 01:33 AM

Are surinam boas (as I've always heard them called), technically supposed to be spelled "suriname" boas? Like the post below? (beautiful animals, you're right, those will produce some beauties) It seems to me that over the years the common name has changed from "surinam" to "suriname". What is the consensus on this? I know the country of origin is "suriname". Or are both just commonly accepted? 6 to half dozen? Just curious.

Thanks, and sorry for sounding like a knucklehead, I'm just not a boa keeper. So I plead ignorance, and ask for mercy! LOL I am starting get fall in love with surinams, or is it surinames? Aaarrggghh! LOL

Scott

right wrong or indifferent I use Suriname and have for 20 years, well maybe not 20, I am not really sure when in the 80's it became envouge to use the locality for the name, until them it was either common or redtail boa.
Thanks

Hey Scott-

Brett here in Rocklin. Spoke to you a few months ago. I believe it should be Suriname. That is the origin's name afterall. I have four of them and I might have left the E off the end one or two times describing them. Anyway, Hope all is well. BTW Dig your guys' website. Can't wait till winter is over with so I have some pics to post.

Happy Holidays!

Brett
