Household item to place undersubstrare

damenta Dec 16, 2004 06:03 AM

Hey all i got a new setup for my tanks but the bottom of the tanks are in the air.. my other pets doing dig down to the glass however but my pacman dose, he digs real deep agienst the glass and its about 40F on the otherside of the glass so he gets real cold and unresponsive because of it.. i acctually had to put on some latex gloves and hold him for about 10 minutes before he started to get moving and responsive again, he hanst entered burmation yet tho. ANYWAYS i was wondering if theres any household item i could place under the substrate to keep him from getting to the glass.. Id get some pet/reptile carpet but my car is broken down so i cant make it to the petshop right now and i want to keep him off the glass.

I know I may be castrated for this by some but I would put a layer of gravel under your substrate. They for the most part will not dig down into it and it will add some insulation. If it is covered by your normal substrate, you do not have to worry about them accidently swallowing it during feeding and getting an impaction. Its also a good way to keep your humidity up in the tank without having totally drenched tank substrate. the water will settle in to the gravel. just an idea.
