Are the spray vitamins good or are there better supplements?

I think it depends what spray vitamin it is... I used a certain one with both of my iggy's and the result was not good. My little guy was fine, but my big girl ended up with stomatitis due to calcium deficiency. Thankfully she did not get MBD. But I did end up spending plenty of money at the vet. I now have a powder supplement that works much much better, and I would not go back to that spray. **This is only my opinion that I reached through my own experience!!**

What type of vitamins are in the spray, and is it intended to be used on the iguana or sprayed on the food before feeding?

Some vitamins are fat soluable, some are water soluable. What is in the spray, both in terms of vitamins and the liquid used to disolve them?

I would go with a powdered form for the food.

one and I ordered both already. I guess I'll order the powder now, I should have checked first but it was an after thought.

Thanks very much.

I've heard that they're not good and to stay away from them, but I don't know more than that based on personal experience. The books I have (Igs for Dummies and Utimate Owners Manual) make references to powdered supplements, so that's what I use.

What diet are you using? It's important to make sure that vitamin supplements are recommended with your diet, or you could over supplement. Some diets advise that you need them, and some do not. It's important that you follow the directions of the diet you're trying to use. The MK diet calls for them, I believe, but the IgDen diet does not.

RepCal sells a great powdered multi vitamin and calcium with no phosphorous or D3 added. I have to buy mine online, but it's worth it.

I use ReptoCal....powder stuff.

It says it has Calcium & Vitamin D3.

Is it not supposed to have the D3?????

I use the Green Iguana Society's food chart for buying Forest's food.......http://www.greenigsociety.org/foodchart.htm

Now, I'm confused. Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Repcal makes calcium with phosphorous and D3, with D3, and just plain calcium. In order to get the correct Ca:Ph, you need to give calcium with no phosphorous... otherwise, you might was well not be supplementing at all.

As for the D3... iguanas cannot metabolize D3 by ingesting it like some other animals can. They need the UVB. Offering calcium with D3 is a false security. Besides which, if they can't use it, why give it to them?

This is just what I was told. You can't go wrong with pure calcium.
