Pac Man Sick???

Freakytah Dec 16, 2004 04:49 PM

Hi. I've had a pac man for about 6-8 months now and he has been doing really well. Today was the first day I saw any sign of him since a littel before thanksgiving and that is a little odd. Normally he'll bury himself for a few days, but never this long. His color is also a little lighter, he used to be darker green now he's kind of yellow. Is it normal for them to bury themselves for this long? Any help is appreciated.

Are your pac mans eyes shut and does he have a thick layer over his skin? If so he is probably hibernating. What are the temperatures in the cage? Right now our three have temps around 73 or so and are all in hibernation. If your frog is in hibrenation they could bury themselves for months at a time. Last winter my boyfriend's frog, Gordito, buried herself from December through April and came out only slightly skinnier. The more info you can provide the more people will be able to help.

Thanks, the temperature has been around 70-75 lately since its winter time and it gets cooler in my place. He ate three earthworms and then buried himeself in a different place. There's stuff kicked up everywhere and i'm thinkin hes decently deep in there. Other than the color change, i couldn't really notice a difference, he's still the same weight from what i could tell.

Pac Man frogs, as well as most other frogs, can readily change the shade of their colors. An extreme example is the Gray tree frog, it can be bright green one moment, then gray and white with black markings shortly after. Anyway, I have observed that after my frog has been buried for a while, it usually emerges with a darker shade of brown than when it went in. Probably due to the lack of light or the color of the substrate. Also if I turn off the lights, then come back an hour or so later and turn them on, the frog is much darker then it was before. Their color patterns also change as they mature.
