eastern locale ?

wesss Dec 16, 2004 08:22 PM

Bassically what Im looking for is jet black, with super thin chainlink pattern. The closer to no pattern at all the better. Also Im looking for snakes that are going to get large. Does locale play a role in these variables? And if so which locales have these characteristics? If you have any pics of Easterns that fit my description please post them.

Thanx in advance,
WES

There are many pics of Easterns on the site linked under this post. Take a look around see what interests you then try and find a breeder who has that locale or non locale for that matter. There a quite a few Eastern breeders here so Im sure one of us can point you in the right direction. To try and answer your questions I think North Carolina is probably your best bet for thin chains and larger size. The more northerly Easterns can get large as well but not as large as the southern type Easterns. Pretty much SC and up you will find thin chained Easterns with the thinnest in NC,VA,MD and NJ.

Thanx for the info Keith, I guess ill just see what every one has to offer. Just wanted to make sure that there wasnt a specific locale I should be looking for. By the way Keith I was wondering how big is your biggest eastern? How long have you had it?

Keith Hillson Dec 17, 2004 12:20 AM

My biggest Eastern is between 4.5-5' long & is a Monmouth Co., NJ animal. Ive had him for 3 years. I got him from a guy in Canada (Jonathan Wright) who had him for 10 years I think and he got him from John Meltzer who had him for a number of years. So Im either the 3rd or 4th owner. He is a great old snake and has fathered 2 clutches since Ive had him. Here is a pic of him and one of his sons from 2003.

Keith,

I thought it was interesting that your old male is from John. My young baby bullsnake is also from him here in Minnesota. Interesting how the snake breeding community is so small! Take it easy! - Matt
