Plastic housing question (requesting pics)

calienteA1 Dec 16, 2004 10:56 PM

I'm in school, and I live in the dorms. I have my snake here with me, even though I'm not supposed to have animals. My current RA(resident assistant) knows about it, however I'm getting a new RA next semester and chances are, If she sees it, they'll make me take it out of the building. I think if i could make a cage out of a rubbermaid container or something, it would be much more unnoticable. Could you guys please post pictures of what types of plastic containers you house your snakes in, and how you heat them. If you use tape, how do I get it, and how do I know what wattage tape I should get?

not sure what size or species snake you have but when i lived in dorms this is what i did. i went to the hardware store .. home depot .. and went to the section where they have rubbermade containers, then looked for the size that was appropriate and tested around the edges to see if it was possible for the snake to push the lid up and get out through a crack. what i ended up doing was gettin one with a latching lid, drilling some 1/4" holes in the back for ventilation, and used a cobra heating matt to heat them. cobra heat mats can be bought in different sizes and can be used both under the rubbermade or inside it, whichever is easier. this method worked well for me, i had one snake in my closet and another under my bed.

i forgot to add that you should put a dimmer on the heat mat to adjust the temperature.
