WILL LONG TERM CAPTIVE BOA'S EVER HAVE A ..........more

biggworm Dec 17, 2004 02:14 AM

STRONG feeding responce or will they always be shy eaters?I have never tried LIVE prey with my W.C. boa's so I never know if they have it in them to strike and constrict.I feel that they are so SHY when it comes to F.T. I always have to leave the food LATE at night and then they'll eat it.So my question is ,if I have them long enough do you think they will ever strike from thongs.Have you ever heard of W.C. boa's to have an aggresive feeding responce? Should I try live?

If they are eating, why does it matter if they strke and constrict?? Also why would you want to switch to live from F/T. Feeding live can injure the boa if the mice or rat bites the snake. Most people strive to get their snakes on F/T, it's alot easier. If they are wild caught, I am sure they have it in them to strike and constrict or they wouldn't have lived. I guess your post just baffles me because it seems backwards. Please don't take anything I say personally or in the wrong way. Have a good day

Your right,I should count my blessings that my W.C animals are eating, and that they are eating FROZEN.Sometimes it's frustrating because when it's feeding night you just never know when you have to throw out another rat the next day because they were'nt hungry. It's GETTING COSTLY throwing out rats every two weeks. It would be cool for them to grab em off the thongs or eat the rat right then and there, infront of me.I was wondering if I had kept them long enough that they would get less and less shy as the years go on.I thought that just maybe feeding sm live rats might hurry the un shying process???I DON'T KNOW ? that's why I'm asking.I wonder why B.C.C are shyer than B.C.I. Imperators are soo agressive when it comes to feeding, even W.C ones.Your thoughts are appreciated. Ash Lopez

If that snake were in my collection and refused a rat, I'd wait 6-8 weeks until I tried again, maybe even wait until March. What your not recognizing is that eating F/T rodents IS an ideal feeding response.

I have Mad' Tree Boas that I fast for 6 months EVERY year and even then I give them 1 meal per month. Not many wasted rats when you know they're hungry. I haven't had BC's for some years, but I had one go on fast for 8 months without significant weight loss.

Good luck,

Doug T

Its all about the individual. I have a LTC that is a ravenous feeding machine. He can't eat as much as he would like due to a sensative stomach, but when I feed him I get the whole show.

I also havea CB female that will not strike at anything ever. She will only eat off the cage floor.
