Spoiled rotten or just a baby?

Jamiesbeardie Dec 17, 2004 11:39 AM

I have a new beardie. I got her from a petstore and they said she'd eat twice a day and with crickets and some mealworms. She's 4 mos and I have yet to see her drink from a dish or eat any greens. Also, having been in a small enclosure until now, she tends to wait until the crickets are practically on her doorstep before she'll get them. Now she's in a big enclosure and although she has tons of room to grow, how long before she realizes she'll actually have to hunt them down? She's already made me worry like crazy, I had to soak her in warm water to get her to go potty after 4 days, now she's not eating. I'm sure she's stressed. I got her about 5-6 day ago, had her in a small temporary habitat, drove 10 hours from phoenix to cali, and now have her in a new home....poor baby.
So how do I get her to eat her veggies and hunt for crickets....
any suggestions. My mom has helped me some, she has an 8 mos old male, but I would like everyone else's opinion too...
Thanks,
Jamie

How big is the enclosure she's in? I would put her in a smaller enclosure for now, to make sure that she doesn't have to run around too much to try to get the crickets. The two younger beardies that I have now love their crickets, as most babies do. But occasionally they will eat their greens when I'm not looking. I mist them 1-2 times a day for their moisture.

MY Beardie did Exactly the same thing. it is my first so i was terrified i was doing something wrong. mine still hasn't eaten any greens but the crickets are eating plenty so he is getting the goodness any way. i got worried when mine was being really withdraw and not drinking but now i am misting him twice a day he looks really health. he still goes on strike and doesn't eat sometimes when he can't be bothered to catch the crickets. i got a large enclosure too. glad to know it isn't just me who worried.

Well....I got it figured out....she was spoiled LOL No really, she's one smart beardie. She's a hunter. As long as I brush the crickets off the walls where she can get them, she'll race across her habitat to get em. And she's quick. So, she's already learned, if she wants to eat she has to hunt. I tried putting her in a smaller enclosure with the crickets, but she didn't eat them at all, but as soon as I put her back into the big one, put some crickets in there too, wham, she ate alot. She's a fickle girl!
Thanks for the replies everyone!
