OMG Snarks she's huge. That's awesome do you know her weight? I don't have any proper scales to weight mine, but they are nowhere near her size. I thought I remember you saying that you feed you geckos 5 mealworms everyday (or every other day), if so that's insane. If she was human she would really hate her metabolism.

Wow...that's the sumo of the lizard world...how did you get him that big? I want mine to be that fat! And is it really good for a gecko to be that huge? I mean, overwieght people get heart disease....is it different for geckos? He's so cute! I can tell you take care of that gecko nicely. ^^

Snarks Dec 17, 2004 02:42 PM

lol yes she is too fat, she's also about 7 years old
and no its not healthy, she only eats 5 insects every other day, i should feed her less frequently but when i feed the other ones i feel soo guilty cuz she looks at me then at her dish...

I hope your're happy Dan...I was drinking a pop when I looked at your "shades" gecko pic, and I laughed so hard I got Code Red all over my desk, the cat, and my homework...hehehehe...how in the world did you get those little glasses to stay on?

ManhattanHerps Dec 18, 2004 12:01 AM

LOL

she's a very sweet leo, once i put them on her she stayed still and didnt move for a few minutes, i got more shots of her like that but i only saved those two on my computer

either she's just a trusting leo...or she's to damn fat and lazy to move, LOL

Ok, this is my fattest and only gecko Kalypso. Not the most recent pic.

This is of her a couple months ago.

I'll get a new one, she's got fat reserves behind her front arms now.

And yes, this is how I found her one evening.

This is my first pair that I got from a local "Mom and Pop" Petshop a few years ago. I feed them every other day, only 3-5 superworms at a time.

The Male. 100 grams.

The Female. 90 Grams.

And one of their very first babies. She is right about 7 months old right now and still growing every week. Female. 50 Grams.

This is fat Sam. She is a mali uromastyx, and was a rescue (her previous owner abused her...that scar is one of two, from a heat lamp falling on her). I think she should probably lose some weight, but since she's a special needs lizard, I don't push the issue too much. This is her when I first got her, 12/23/03. She is still the same beefy lizard, and sometimes even larger (depending on how much she eats and how often she "goes". I also think "she" might actually be a "he", but we got used to referring to her as a female.

that this is an oversized load. The tank she's in in the pic is only 12" wide (her new cage is in the works, 4'x2'x2'). She's my christmas miracle, because with what she's been through and the conditions she was kept in (dirty ten gallon tank, no light, iceburg lettuce), it's a miracle she made it through last christmas.

Cute fat little gecko by the way. I want to get some pics of mine, but he's very shy, especially now that he's shedding (which scared me at first, because he's been acting so wierd).

here's the pic.

She looks fine to me, besides the scar that is. Some mali's are just fat and lazy, take mine for instance. He's about 170 grams (still very young). He just sits there and basks half the day, the rest he either sleeps in his hide or on my stomach.

yeah, it's funny though, if I'm home on the weekends, she tends to bask a lot more (to my knowledge...not like I have a video camera in there when I'm away, but I've come home at like 11 in the morning before and she's already been sleeping in her hide). Like right now it's almost 11, and she's sitting basking under the heat lamp. I thinik that has to do with two things though. 1. She gets fed later, I'm just about to go feed her, so she has more time to warm up and hang around before she eats, and then she just gets the necessary couple of hours of basking in before retiring to her hidespot. On weekdays when I have to go to school, the food is already in the tank before she even gets up. 2. I think she thinks it's a little more interesting when there's stuff going on in the house, so she'll stick around longer than she has to.

Another funny thing, in her cage, the only time she moves around is to get up from her hide to her basking spot, from the basking spot to the food dish and back (sometimes once or twice, if she doesn't eat it all the first time), and then eventually back from the basking spot to the hide spot. Then, when I take her out, she's all over the place. She also won't "go" in her cage, she'll only do it in my room, so I have to line the floors with towels and newspapers when she comes out. I think it might have something to do with the conditions she was kept in before. It's extra work, but it's worth it to keep her healthy.

I think last time she was weighed, she was about the same size and maybe around 400 grams (she's around 12" long too). I think I'm going to use the money I get from relatives at christmas time to buy a gram scale so I can really keep track of how the lizards are going weight wise.

Do you have any pics of your little uro? If I had the space and everything, I'd love to buy a little baby ornate or something.

LadyGecko Dec 17, 2004 10:42 PM

This is ButterCup and I took this the day that I got her to show a friend how large that she was.
I didn't even think to use a dollar bill for a size comparison so I just grabbed what was handy. The cig pack holds 120's the really long ones
