Reptilecraz2323 Dec 17, 2004 06:44 PM

What kind of other turtles can chicken turtles stay with and what size cage would they need?

How big of a tank/pond are you wiling to provide? Some animals that get along fine in 500 gallons will tear each other up in 100 gallons. I'm thinking that an adult female chicken turtle would probably need a 75 gallon tank all by herself.

They will do OK in a standard aquatic setup, but in nature, they are much more semi-terrestrial than the cooters and sliders they share their range with. They seem to do OK in a community tank and don't appear particualrly aggressive. Their long necks make them more susceptible to bite injuries from their tank mates and I have had a small one decapitated.
