My Finished Unfinished Chondro Cage

crtoon83 Dec 17, 2004 07:54 PM

I have completed the construction, now i just need to stain and polycrylic over it. I'm very pleased with my perches... esp for the first time doing it!!!

And I know to give at least a couple weeks for polycrylic to offgas, but how much would i need to let offgas if i chose to do oil based poly?

Thanks,
chris

Good job. Did you not include an upper and lower lip? If so, why?

For the cage EXTERIOR you could have your snake in within days. It dries that quickly.

Oil-based on the exterior is a tough question. I suppose to be completely safe you should wait until you can't smell it up close.

Since an exterior won't need as many coats you might be able to get an oil-based to offgass within two weeks.

thanks. the track is on the ceiling and the floor, I didn't leave a lip mainly because I didn't want any exposed wood. All the trim on the inside even has been painted with a semigloss and covered with a thin strip of FRP. I figured that since the chondro wouldn't be spending much (if any) time on the ground, it would be pretty much pointless to have a very thick substrate bed.

I think i'll do that for my exterior... thanks
