Looking into Leos

BryanR. Dec 18, 2004 01:39 AM

Okay my main reason for etnering the leo world is cause there so adorable lol and I cant resist any longer. My second reason is because I want to breed my first reptiles and leos look like a great place to start. I've owned several different types of amphibians and reptiles over the years, all of whichI still have minus my Green Tree frogs that died ofa misterious disease . I have many free 10 gallon tanks that once held fish or amphibians that have been moved into larger tanks. And I was thinking of using 1 or 2 to house a pair of Leos. Now what kind of Leos fit these catagories:

--Inexpensive (im not necessarily being cheap, but I want to keep more money to give my geckos a happy life)
--Will I be able to sell the offspring or not? NOt for a profit of course lol but so I dont have a ton of geckos to take care of.

Regular Leos are a reasonable option, but if you have a better idea, let me know!

You have been bitten by the leo bug!! Well, first you need to read as many books and caresheets as possible. There is a caresheet on my site listed below and there are also caresheets on the websites that sponser this forum. Leos are pretty easy to breed but sometimes very expensive it all depends on it you want to sell "normal" geckos or get into more colorful ones like carrot tails. What are you going to incubate the eggs in? This can be expensive too. You can fit one adult gecko in a ten gallon tank. There are alot of geckos for sale on the internet. Visit almost any site listed here (including mine) and you'll be able to find one. Some are inexpensive some aren't. You can probably find some pretty good deals right now since it's getting cold and people want to get rid of the last offspring from this season before the next season comes up. Hi-yellows are pretty and kinda cheap. You can check the classifieds here or f a u n a c l a s s i f i e d s. com. Usually you will be able to sell the offspring. It depends on what people are looking for and the price you're asking for them. The best thing to do is get a website and post the geckos for sale on classifieds around the internet. Since we aren't allowed to use this forum for selling geckos it's hard for someone to say they have a gecko for sale so just go and check out some websites. Feel free to ask any more questions. Me or someone else will be glad to answer.

Yeah I've looked around a lot and in previous years and Im sure I'll be able to care for them. Substrate I am unsure about though because theres a lot of debate on that. I hear the calcium sands counter act the acids in their stomachs and cause impactions. Anyways I own and maintain a website for our schools band so I have my own server and the skill to launch another site. I recomend you get a server also and get more into the design because therse more potential. Hosting with people like tripod is eh lol. Webhostingbuzz.com is my host which charges about 4 dollars a month and I get a ton of bandwidth and storage. My Domain name is about 14 dollars a year. Its all pretty cheap.

Anyways I think regs are the way I'll go, maybe when I get more funds I'll get more into it but consider I'm a Senior in HS, I have a 850 dollar Wind Ensamble trip to pay for, College, Car, ACademy, Buying an insturment to practice on in order to get into academy. Yeah I have a lot of financial problems coming up lol.

Tile is the best substrate. It's cheap easy to clean and doesn't cause impaction. You can get a tile at like home depot for about 99 cents. I use the vinyl kind becuase you can cut it with just household scissors and it conducts heat great.
