How about Reptile Relief also?

msubigdawg Dec 18, 2004 10:05 AM

I also have seen an add for a mite spray called Reptile Relief. I am wondering has anyone used this and if so did it work. I am torn between this or Provent-a-Mite. For the longest time I have been using a part Water part Nix (lice shampoo) solution and it has not worked. The mite just come right back. So I really need some help. Thank you.

I've never used Reptile Relief so I'd stick with Provent a Mite. You say the mites keep coming back... What are you using for substrate and are you totally cleaning the cage out? When I've treated for mites, usually just a couple treatments (I use Black Knight spray- no longer available but I hope I'll never need it again) cleared them out and they don't come back. When treating for mites, I first try to determine the origin of the bugs (did they come from a new animal, are they coming in from something like bedding or live feeder mice from a pet store?) and then make sure that I treat all animals and cages for 3 weeks to stop the mite egglaying cycle. I keep the snakes on papertowels during treatment, so that I can make sure I'm totally removing the substrate and easily see any new mites.
