more voracious eater pacman or pixie

andrewthao Dec 18, 2004 01:03 PM

Hey,

I am deciding between a pacman frog and a giant pixie frog. I like the fact that both are aggressive, but I would like opinions and advice from people as to which one to get. I want the more aggressive, more active, more voracious eater. I heard pacman are more aggressive, but also that they are lazier and sit around. is this true? I might also consider a budgett frog whom I hear is also aggressive and a voracious eater. Let me know

They are all the same in that respect, it all depends on the individual specimen.

In my personal experience budgett frogs move a lot more, but they look ridiculous so if you want a mean lookin frog, that's not the way to go. In terms of strict looks, I'd go with the pacman. I have two albino crawnwelli's and they are a brilliant yellow with pink and brown blotches. Very cool to look at. The pixie frogs are cool as well but get HUGE. I've seen a pixie frog that you'd have to hold with two hands around the waist. check it out:

As the owner of two lazy pacman frogs, my bias opinion is pacmen. Any frogs won't move much anyway. good luck with your decision.

Pixie frogs are more aggressive, more active, and get larger. I have had pac mans and pixie frogs since I was 12. MALE pixie frogs get to be 9", females about 6". Male pac me 5" max, females 6". My pixie goes from one side of the tank to the other and from water to dirt. My pac mans only come out when they're misted. I was just talking to my cousin today about the differences in eatting habbits of my pac men and pixies. My pixie acts like she is trying to kill whatever i feed her. I would really not like for her to bite me! My pac man about the same size does bite hard also but is not as voracious. Buggets are the same way but I have never had one. So, from what you have described you want, I would say you want a pixie.

My huge albino pac man

wow how big is that alb pac? And how many months did it take to reach that size? Mine is still the size of a tennis ball and i was wondering when i'd need a big tank

That pac man is about 5" snout/vent. She's eatting a large adult mouse. And your question depends on what size the enclosure you have it in now. A full grown female can live happily in a 10/15 gallon aquarium. As long as they have everything they need and a deep enough substrate to burry in, the usually just disappear into ths soil for long periods of time and come out only when misted or to get a drink.

I think the more active and better eater is definatly the pixie. My pixie eats about fifteen crix a day. He also hops around alot! He actually makes an effort at jumping he has jump about 3 inches in the air once and hes only about 2 inches. He chases his food instead of waiting for it to come to him. I take him out to let him explore. He hops all around my room. Pixie is without a doubt more active and a bigger eater. They also get to be about 9" around. Mines growing like a weed. Hope that helps.

I've had several horned frogs that chase their food, and I've had several that didin't. I've also had an african bullfrog that did and one that didn't. Like I said it just depends on that particular specimen. I've had a horned frog that from the day I got it refused to bite, and one that neve stopped trying to bite, most do mellow out and don't try to bite you after a while. None of the african bullfrogs I had ever tried to bite me.
