Misting and Housing

lil_frogger2 Jul 02, 2003 10:30 PM

Hey, I was wondering if chameleons should be housed in pairs, or if they can just live alone. Also, I got a mister for them and I was wondering how long and how often I should have the mister on. I am housing them in a screen cage, if that affects anything.

A lot of it depends on the type of chameleon you have. Some species are more territorial than others and usually require they're own space, but all species of chameleon do fine housed by themselves. As far as humidity goes, that depends very much on the species of chameleon, so I can't say how much they need unless I know what species they are.

We need more info. Misting is necessary to provide drinking water and air humidity. You need an electronic humidity gauge to tell you what the cage climate is, you need to read up on what humidity range your species requires (check www.adcham.com for species specific details), and them experiment with setting the mister on different cycles with a plug in lamp timer so it can maintain the humidity you need. So much depends on the climate in your house, the region you live in, and your cham species.
