My Adult Has Refused 2 Meals....

Sunshine Dec 18, 2004 07:14 PM

My female adult has refused to eat. She hasn't eaten since 11-28-04 at which time she ate a med rat and a leftover wean. rat. (Normally she would only eat the med rat) I accidentally thawed too many weaners and fed it to her so I wouldn't have to throw it out. She has had babies in 2003 and 2004 and has put back on all her weight. The first week of Nov she was taken out of her usual cage since the male was seen aligning with her and I don't want her to breed this season. She was moved into a new cage and was doing well. I see no visible symptoms of illness. she regulates her temp, going from the warmer side to the cooler side and staying in one place of 2 days or so. I haven't observed her soaking since moving to the new cage, but the humidity is higher (I'm guessing due to more and constant condensation) and I moved her with her hide and same water bowl. I even put another hide on the cooler side.

There may be no reason for concern...but I am. Her surface temp was 80 and so far today all the others have been 70 to 72(I have a few more to go). I am hoping see isn't gravid, cause that's the only explanation I have. I wouldn't think it would be likely she would be gravid already...especially since I seperated her from the male. Would she just go off feed because it's the season to breed?

From my experience the males have more of a propensity to go off feed early, but that experience actually doesn't directly relate to BRBs since the majority of my experience is with bci. Most of males go off feed for a short time, and the females will eat until a a month or two into term. Female Corns just STOP eating as soon as it's time to breed. So to answer your question....I don't have the slightest idea...but the cicumstances seem to point to sexual distractions.....
Good luck, Chris O
