Getting Kenyans to eat F/T

dyky71 Dec 18, 2004 07:22 PM

Can anyone give any advice for getting Kenyans to eat F/T?

This trio eats live rat hoppers. These are 2002 Cbb.

Do most people feed live or F/T to their Kenyans?

Any help is appreciated.I have been offered a lovely trio but I don't have access to live rat hoppers.

I hate to pass them up but I will if getting them to eat F/T is unrealistic.

I have a trio that eat F/T with no problem, so it is not unrealistic at all. Do you know what the previous owner fed? The previous owner of my male fed live so I just dangeled the F/T in front of his face and tapped him on the nose with it and he ate with no problem. Now I don't even have to do that. Good luck!

The owner is feeding live hopper/fuzzy rats.
Thanks for the info. I really want this trio and am trying to decide if I should try this.

I have 2 kenyans right now (both approximately 6 months old) I had a hard time getting them to eat at all at first but now they regularly take F/T pinks. This may not be of the best help since these were raised on F/T but shows that it can be done.
You may want to try placing some F/T in no-so-fresh rat bedding. This scents the F/T well and may encourage your kids to take them. Many pet stores would happily part with a little used bedding if you explain the situation. One consideration is, however, parasites. I think that overall you're better off dealing with some parasites than starving snakes.
This technique worked for me when I changed my ball python over from fresh to F/T, and balls are notorious for being finniky eaters.
Hope this helps.
