skater2337 Dec 18, 2004 07:26 PM

i was at the phoenix reptile show today and saw a vender with hissers and i decided to start a colony. only problem is my mom is not happy. she freaked out when i got home, but i think i convinced her to let me keep them. right now i have 4 big pregnant females that should give birth pretty soon. so my question is can the babies get out of the faunarium i have them in right now? its one of those plastic cages and the spaces in the top are probally 1/2 - 2/3 of a centimeter wid.

You can add a layer of vaseline inside the tank on the glass. I have a three inch strip along mine. I heard the nymphs might bypass the vaseline, but the adults don't (so far). There is a product called bug stop I believe that you may also be able to purchase. As an added bonus, you could buy some double sided sticky tape above the vaseline. If they bypass the vaseline they may get stuck to the tape. This will more than likely kill them, but at least your mom won't find one in her coffee cup or something.

number 1 rule of the herper-kid world; NEVER TELL YOUR MOTHER ABOUT NEW ANIMALS UNTIL WHATEVER IT IS ESCAPES!Maybe not, boy did I get in trouble when my monitor got loose!

anyway the babies will escape from one of those cages, I know because that happened to me. take some thin cloth and stretch it over the top of the cage before you snap the lid on, that does the trick.
