For all you porphyracea fans, a question...

jfirneno Dec 18, 2004 09:38 PM

Below I've attached a link to a photo on K D Shulz's website. It's of an Indonesian locale porphyracea subspecifically named laticincta (or laticinctus for the Oreophis designation). First comment of course is WOW! Second comment; anybody ever hear of this spp showing up in the US? Of course the wow is almost equally relevant for all the porphyracea spp. But you've got to start somewhere. Anyway, if anyone knows whether coxi and vaillanti are getting company from their other cousins in the US I'd love to hear about it.

Hi John,

I believe laticinctus is a pretty rare ssps. I don't remember a single speciman being imported anywhere. It's range is very limited in the mountains in Malaysia. Of course, my contacts are very limited on porphyraceus now, too, since I'm not keeping them anymore. I sold off my coxi. They just didn't fit in with my scheme of things, even though they were hardy and good feeders. Luck with them if you get them.

Actually I'm strictly looking for info right now. My hands are full at the moment. But I thought maybe one of the importers like Steve Emerick might be lurking. I'd just love to get a sense of what's coming in. The pulchra and the kawakamii are very cool looking too but I think more animals are coming out of Indonesia and Malaysia so I figured I'd check on that subspecies first.

Nice calico beauties you've been putting up. That should be a very exciting project.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you.
John
