Ultra sneaky MBK...

Antegy Dec 18, 2004 10:11 PM

So I was playing around today, taking some photos of my pets. Afterwards, I decided to have my little MBK hang out with me while I played around on my computer. She has been incredibly nervous and defensive since I got her, and I'm trying to put a little extra effort into calming her down. So we spent a good two hours or so hanging out on the computer together.

Sort of. I hope you all don't give me the third degree for this, but here goes anyway...

All seemed to be going pretty well. She found her way into the cuff of the long sleeve shirt I was wearing and made herself at home there for most of the time. From time to time she would venture up my sleeve and try to slip out of my shirt across my belly. I could feel her moving along, as it tickled somewhat. So I would just pick her up, and she would promptly find her way back into my sleeve.

Well, at one point I noticed that she had probably been sleeping, as it was warm in my sleeve, and she hadn't been trying to venture out much at all. I had been trying to keep somewhat still, to try and help her stay calm. Trouble is, at one point, upon checking for her in my sleeve, I found her gone. Completely gone. I stood up, checking my sleeve, sleeves, under my shirt, in my pants pockets! I couldn't believe it. She managed to sneak away so smoothly I hadn't noticed at all!

I immediately grabbed a flashlight and checked about the area. I found her in less than a minute, slipping around under my computer desk. So, I picked her up, she found my sleeve again, and we continued playing around on my computer for a while. I kept a very much more diligent eye on her from then, as I plan to always now!

I have to say - its amazing how stealthy this little girl can be.

Ok - thanks for reading my lengthy post. Hope you enjoy the pics,
- Mark

I've had 4 types of Kings, the most Sneaky are the Sonoran Blacks. (I refuse to name creatures after temporary political states. It's home is the Sonoran Desert, which includes a portion of AZ, and only the NW portion of Mexico. We don't call the Eastern Black King the Kentucky Black, do we? Point made.)

A young female years ago got away once and was never found. Every other type of King I've had, when lost, was found, most within 30 minutes. (I had one Cal King named Vorlon who was charmed; he seemed to come out of hiding when called!)

Last month, my young male Sonoran Black got out when I left a vivarium panel open after cleaning. Days passed, he was not found. I checked everywhere I could, even inside closets, boxes and water heater. I felt certain that he was gone, and that I was cursed regarding Sonoran Blacks.

I replaced him with a Mojave Desert Cal King who spent just one night in the vivarium. Next morning, my Sonorna Black was found next to the vivarium! I had to take back the Cal King, and thankfully got a full refund.

So glad that Shadow is back now. He is a gem. I hope to break the longevity record with him and have him longer than 23 years.

Let me know hour your female is doing from time to time, would be good to hear from other Sonoran Black owners.

If you refuse to use "temporary political states" in names why do you use the term "Cal King"? And I would have to say "Sonoran Black King" is just as in-appropriate as "Mexican Black King" as Sonora is a state of Mexico just as Kentucky is a state in the U.S. If your gonna be a rebel you have to be consistant lol. I agree, most of the names we use are misnomers, thats what latin is for.

See above posting. You assumed - you were incorrect.

No need to laugh out loud. (I can still spell the words and am not too lazy to write them. I have not replaced my structured language with your memorized street slang.)

Sonoran Desert is a geographical region encompasssing parts of Mexico, Baja and Arizona. I referred to the snake based on its region (like the Saharan Snake), not based on a Mexican State.

You assumed, and you were wrong. No need to laugh out loud, nor apologize.
