I purchased a pair of ornates from Ben. He was very nice and the animals arrived in excellent health and were more beautiful than his description indicated. They are so friendly that you can just reach in the cage and scratch them and they just close their eyes and enjoy. The little girl will jump right in your hand and to up to your shoulder. This is my personal experience with Ben, hope yours will be great too!

Your Egyptians are beautiful. I was happy with my ornates from Ben as well. Your cage looks great, where did you find those step-type caves, they look interesting as well as functional. Thanks for sharing your pics.

Pam,
They're E.S.U Basking platforms. Easy to clean and take the heat well. I bought from Twin Oaks(glasscages.com)at a reptile show 4 10-15$.

Most of the general care sheet applies to Egyptians. As far as young ones go I do not feed mine insects. I feel that as long as he is eating well on his greens he can do without insects. Peas were a lifesaver for me when I first got him. He ate peas exclusively for about a month. For some reason he would eat a lot of peas but not his other greens. Make sure to supplement more often if your little one will only eat peas. I would use paper towels at first for a substrate...it's easy and they can move around on it. I would also be concerned about a little one eating large pieces of bird seed. I use a 100 watt mercury vapor lamp lowered into his cage until it is about 6 inches from his basking rock. He's small enough he can't touch it. Greens should be shredded very fine. They have sharp jaws and can bite pieces off of larger chunks but seem to eat more when it is shredded. I'd keep handling down to a minimum for a while (a few months) as he gets into a routine. Sorry about the late post. Keep us updated on him!
