Heating question!?!?!

michaelchameleon Dec 18, 2004 10:46 PM

Hello.

O.k so here is the deal....

Its winter here in Canada now, and the temperature is getting really cold. For heating I had a 100watt light and a 50 watt light on top of the cage. The chameleon only stayed under the 100 light, only on one branch. So I bought another 100 watt light to put in the other corner of the cage. Now the cage isn't a full adults cage. its size is good for a medium sized veiled around 6 months. So my question is...is having 2 100 watt lights on the cage to much? This is my first winter with the chameleon, and I didnt think it would get cold enough at night that I would have to cover his screen cage, but I have started covering 3/4 of the cage with a towel at night when I turn his lights off, because of how cold it gets.

How cold is cold, I would assume that the cham is kept indoors, but would like to know what "cold" is??

Yep, we really need actual temps to tell you anything. Chams can tolerate a night time temp drop into the low 60s (F) just fine as long as they have a chance to warm up thoroughly every day. What are your temps?
