I'm new to bearded dragons, and was wondering how much you can buy one for at a show?? And if they'd be better than ones at the pet store. Thanks in advance.

i got mine for $25 at a show, and she's a cuuuuuutie

but i imagine thats also a place a lot of bad breeders can sell too....just know what the look for and you can probably get a better deal than online. at least save the shipping cost

I get my lizards at shows. You can get feeders, cages, supplies, and the actual animal for very low prices. Most of the breeders are very reliable. They are more educated than in a pet store, which also have higher prices. Also, if you get a lizard online, you really don't get to really check out what the dragon is living in. Good luck with yur new dragon.

You don't get a chance to see what the dragon is living in at a show either lol. Always best to goto the breeder in person if possible at their location and handpick the one you want.

Buying online is okay if you can somewhat trust who you are buying from... way to easy to doctor pics or enhance them or just out right lie about the dragon.

Be careful at reptile shows tho.. buying your dragons there expose them to the other "factors" such as more disease, mites, parasites... stress from being in a box for a few days with no heat and cramped conditions.. lots of things to consider.

Def not from most pet stores tho! Steer clear of them unless it's a rare store that actually has a clue. I've seen some really outstanding pet stores for reptils.. but most are pretty bad.

G'luck

Yea thats true. But you can look at the different breeders (there will be many with beardies), compare them to each other. You can tell about awareness of the breeder, even though you haven't seen everything. If they put them in a small little box, or with crickets crawling all over them...move on. The last show I went to had some breeders that set up cages with all the lights and stuff to make the dragons feel more at home. You can tell that those breeders know their stuff.

a lot of times you can tell a big difference in the "breeder" and the guy down the street who has no idea what he's doing and got lucky with some eggs.

Alertness is def the key to getting a good healthy dragon. Never want one that is sluggish and lethargic.

Good post.
