food for sick collared

computerofme Dec 19, 2004 10:13 AM

what can i feed the sick lizard? he will not eat crickets or mealworms so i need something that i can force feed him. (possibly some gatorade for electrolytes) he always keeps his eyes closed and only moves if i sray him with bio mite or try to move him.

Are you sure he,s sick ? maybe he just want to brumate ? I was thinking that my collared was sick, but he just want to brumate ! As for the brumation, i hope Eve will read this post because she can explain it a lot better than me.

he is very young, his body is less than 2.5" long
i know he wont eat or drink anything. I got him to drink a little water today that i mixed with gatorade, but i really need to know what i can feed him so he doesnt starve.

I had gotten a wc collared that was extremely ill, just layed flat, eyes closed, no movement , looked close to death
Seemed to me to be starving to death, very imachiated.

First I left the heat on in her tank round the clock, for a few weeks. I know many would not agree on that but , it does help.

I woke her every 3-4 hours and either stuffed a very soft , white newly shed superworm down her throat or a small cricket. She did swallow, which is certainly a help. Becuase if they shut down to the point of not swallowing they will of course choke.

You can use pedylite, simular to gadoraide found in baby isle (in grocery store) add that to baby food in jar( chicken and veggie) is a good one. add some calcium power to mixure, like you would normally dust their bugs. Give him small amounts with an eye dropper if ya have one availble. Some use a syringe(the empty tube part) I would do this like I said small amounts every 3 -4 hrs.

I also gave drops of water to keep hydrated . See if he perks up a bit. Let us know how your doing.

Some of these collareds are caught, and sold to these stores and unfortunity do not acclimate to captivity well and have parisites which also adds to their demise. The people who work there are not experienced, and the lizard tends to waste away!

Even people who are experienced in keeping wc's and helping them to acclimate will lose some also. :0(
Keep us updated.
