I like the use of elevated basking spots. A lot of times you tend to see setups where the basking site is pretty low and really far away from the bulb (my setup is like that right now, and I'm eager to change it, for the sake of saving energy). You should build retes stacks for the beardies. Go to proexotics.com or ask over at the monitor forums. You can make them as high as you need them and they offer so many hiding options. I use one with my mali uromastyx, and I think I'm going to use one with my beardie too once I get the new tanks built. Then I can heat the tanks with smaller bulbs and maybe save a little money on electricity. It really tends to add up after a while.
