Outdoor enclosure tips?

FredLobster Dec 19, 2004 12:05 PM

I need to completely re-do my sulcatas' outdoor enclosure this winter so it'll be ready for them to go back out in the spring.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to use this time around that will keep the tortoises in, and the dogs out, without costing hundreds of dollars?

It's about a 6' x 8' area for sub adult sulcatas that don't burrow (thank god).

Thanks for the input.

Here's the first outdoor enclosure we made at our new house,
about 3 1/2 years ago. From that I expanded. These are
10X10 panels, if you've got 8X6 space, I believe there is
a dog pen that size at Lowe's. Don't know how big your
dogs are, I think the smaller pens (Petsmart has them too)
may only be 4 ft. tall (mine's 6 ft), and you may need a
top cover if your dogs could get into that. I think the
small pen might be about $140 or so. Line the inside with
1"X12" planks to keep the torts off of the chain link. Mine's
got brick lining the outer perimeter also, mine's never dug
at all. Matter of fact I think there's even a smaller pen,
like a 4X6 but with two sulcatas you'll find that obsolete
really quick so it might be better to spend some money in
the first place to save it in the long run. good luck

That's not a bad idea. I can easily expand to 10x10, and I have plenty of bricks to line the perimiter also. I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier, because we were going to do something similar for a chicken coop.

And here I was getting ready to do manual labor building a wood fence... sheesh!
