Today I arrived home from a trip to find a shed snake skin in some rocks and an absolutely beautiful scarlet kingsnake basking in the warmth, He looked like a completely different snake. I dropped a pinky in. Wham! The next thing I new, he was dangling from my wrist, really chewing away at it this time. He then started to throw coils around my wrist, and was wrapping really tightly. He kept working his teeth back and forth until he broke the skin and blood came out.
When I placed him down, up he shot again, tearing away madly at my finger. I have never seen such a strong feeding response. He then turned his attention to the pinky, which he struck savagely several times before I left the room. Good things are to come.
P.S.
I went to the Cleveland show today. No scarlet kings, but some people there gave me great advice on their care, and instead I got a female Western hog to breed to my male. One beautiful scarlet kingsnake is enough. I have really appreciated all of your help, and I hope that I will have much more time to enjoy this beautiful little snake.
