Sore on bottom skin of snapper

rick d Dec 19, 2004 05:38 PM

I have a small common snapper that presently is being brumated. I noticed a red sore about 3/4 of an inch by an eighth of an inch on his skin next to the plastron. I was thinking of taking him back inside and warming him up then soaking him in some weak salt water. I've heard using 2 tsp. per qt and maybe do this every other day? I could try some antiseptic creams but am not sure of their value since the turtle is in the water most of the time. All ideas are appreciated.

the common can remain out of water easily for 3 days at a time todryy out.try using neosporin or some form of bacitracion on the sore.if you want you can wet the shell withwater while hes out of the tank.this stuff is like a vaseline and stays on pretty good in water aswell.but i think drying him out some is the best bet.also there is a liquid called sulmet that is sold in feed stores or try online.it prvents the sores from getting worse, you add it to the tank water.good luck
