HELP! Children's Python Not Eating

scatmelee Dec 19, 2004 06:04 PM

my python hasn't eaten in "4" months. she lives in a 30 gallon tank with a basking spot (under tank heat pad) at 90F and a cool spot at 75. she has a hide box, large water dish and branches to climb. i've offered her frozen mice and pinks, live mice and pinks, and a live gecko and anole. she wasnt even a little interested. the wierd thing is, she is very active as always and looks to be in good shape. i've had her for almost 4 years now and, every winter she stops eating for a month or two, but i'm getting worried now. any tips are appreciated. thank you!

Snakes can go a long time without eating. Just a thought-- Have you tried dipping the f/t rodent in chicken broth? Sometimes that jump starts a feeding response. If you are concerned, consider having a fecal done. Sometimes intestinal parasitic activity will take away their appetites. My childreni are eating machines, and if one of them ever refused a meal I'd be at the vet the next morning (lol). Best of luck and let us know the progress.
