Weird???

Chamcham505 Dec 19, 2004 06:42 PM

Hi,
I went to feed my 5 month male veiled today and I noticed he had a 3 in. strand of hair coming out of his butt! I pulled on it a little (I know it sounds gross) and about 1 in. more came out, then it fell out. Did he consume it accidently? Hes been a little bloaded lately, and was wondering if he was constipated, and if that was the cuase of the problem. Also, checked the temps and humidity, everything is fine. What do you think happened? Thanks!
Michele

I noticed the same thing with my 4 mo. old Panther last week. He was dragging it around for a few minutes. I was about to do something when it got caught on a branch and came out on it's own. I was concerned but he seems OK. They must have ingested some hair or something. Although my hair is too short, it very well may have been my girlfriends.

Has anyone else come across this and is it anything to be worried about?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I have only heard of
this happening once. The person pulled on the hair and it
came out...but later the chameleon died.

I think the hair could have cut the intestines or caused some
damage to it due to the pulling or due to it being caught on
something inside the chameleon's digestive system. I would NOT
recommend pulling on a hair to get it out if it happened again.
I would just leave it there and keep a close eye on the chameleon
for a while in case the hair did cause some damage when it was
pulled out. Possibly the chameleon could be fed something that
would help the hair pass through?

I hope your chameleon will be one of the lucky ones and have
suffered no damage.
