Going outside???

ptdnsr Dec 19, 2004 09:14 PM

Ok...still haven't found our two snakes that disappeared a week ago. Pretty much given up hope of finding them this winter at least. My question is would they have tried to get outside? It was pretty cold this past week, highs in the 40s and it's in the 10s right now. I'd guess that they'd find a nice small hole to get into the walls and hang out there because we keep the house in the 70s. Does anyone know if they would head outside if it were so cold just because of their nature or do you think they would stay inside? I don't expect them to show up anytime soon but I'm just curious. We've had the traps out for a week and no luck, so if they are in the walls they must have found something to eat. Ok...I'm done now. This was mostly curiosity because I know snakes are pretty smart. Thanks!

i have read post of escape snakes showing up in the weirdest places. i've been fortunate none of mine have escaped. i really doubt your snakes went out into the freezing weather. chances are they have found a nice hide in the houses and are hanging out or brumating. this one guy said his snake showed up after a couple of MONTHS. so don't give up yet...

Don't get me wrong...we haven't given up, I just assume they're curled up and brumating for the winter. We (my boyfriend and I) rent a really old house with lots of hiding spots and not the best insulation in the world. It doesn't get too cold in here but definately not the temperatures that they would prefer...unless they make their way upstairs that is. Anywho...I'm betting they'll turn up in the spring. In the meantime I had a dream about finding one of them...now if only I could remember where I found him in the dream...

One of my corns escaped a year ago and my roommate found him 5 weeks later in his underwear drawer of his plastic dresser! That was in a different room about 30 feet from his cage, who knows where else he had gone. That corn was about 40" then and I looked forever trying to find it - but not there.....

Don't give up looking for your snakes. Someone I know found their snake 1 year later. And she found it in her silver ware draw.

Waht has always worked for me the two times i had babies get out was to stop lookign and morn a little, then go buy another snake. After that and when you dont have a cagte set up for him anymore he will pop up, it is murphys law. ahh sarcasm at its finest, it is funny cause its true.
