Where is a good place to buy a Burmese? Also more questions

silenthill Dec 19, 2004 10:04 PM

Does anyone know of any good sites that I could buy one off of? Also how much do you think it will cost for everything? Would you guys recommend another snake instead? An ideal size snake would be 10 ft but I could handle a 13 footer. I'm assuming males are the smaller ones. If anyone knows of a good snake that gets 10 ft max let me know. I already have a boa constrictor.

Hmmm well from your post it seems you have no history with large biods, dont get a burm. Before you purchase an animal like a burm do your homework, research, find out everything you can. Why rush into a burm or a 10ft snake?? Try a Carpet python, they are harder to keep then a boa constrictor but will put you on the path of larger pythons but is a good intermediate snake. Thats just an example of a good sized python, take a look in the classified section on here, lots of stuff to see. Keep us posted.

males generally stay smaller than females but i have seen pics of some huge males..so just because you have a male doesnt really mean anything....i have a male that is over 10 ft
If you have length restrictions, get yourself somthing else...If you have tons of cash laying around you could get yourself a dwarf burm..they are supposed to stay around 7ft.....but i think they are like 10k

Good luck on the search

What is a carpet python like? How big do they get? Space is not really an issue since I live in a huge house with just my dad, there are plenty of spare rooms I could use. I would mainly just be worried about the safety factor. I'm assuming that after 14ft it would be able to overpower a person.

14ft is a real possibility with a burm...if you have nobody to help you with it i would suggest you get somthing else...Or at least get your dad to stand by and make sure things dont go bad...but i would never handle a large burm alone....
Here is a pic of a carpet python
