Making and fake tree for igg cage?

mike d Dec 20, 2004 08:53 AM

in the next month or two i am going to be moving my igg into the closet that i am going to be making his cage. i want to put two fake trees in there and have the trunk of the tree start at the bottom and go up to the top of the ceiling. and on the bottom i want to get it to look like a real tree. and have some ramps covered in vines going up to shelves that will look like out strecthed branches.. but what could i make it out of? i was thinking about making the bascic shape out of wood and covering it in chicken wire and then putting plaster or cement over it.. but im not sure if that will work.. is anyone has any experience with doing this stuff please help!!!

i want to get this done now because now he can use the whole thing because he is climbing now and my vet said it is alright for him to be climbing up that high

thanks

Mike D

I have 2 suggestions for you. When my iguana was half grown, I bought one of those fake ficus trees and put weights in the bottom part of it. It worked pretty well until my iggy was full grown, then he would climb to the top and it would fall down. Now he has a cat tree type thing that he just loves. It has a base and 3 tiers to either sit on or use to help climbing. Then it has a spring lock at the top of it so it will lock into place from the ceiling. It's not really that wide, so it fits pretty well anywhere you put it. And since it's wrapped with carpeting, he has an easier time climbing to the top shelf. We've had the thing for 10 years now, and it's probably his favorite place to sit besides in the window sill.
