Staggering color differences in father and son Panthers?

cronus20 Dec 20, 2004 11:43 AM

I was just wondering, based on the experiences of this esteemed community, if the offspring of a panther chameleon matches generally with the father, or do they tend to vary tremendously, even within the first generation? I ask because they are always showing off the father, but i've never seen any father/son pictures together...im assuming they look alike, but im not sure...

Well, the female will add her genetic info to the mix, and some degree of coloration is due to individual variation (and I think there is a lot here due to the nature of cham skin structure), recessive genes that may have come from past generations in the bloodline. I don't know if there have been enough controlled captive/selective generations for the coloration to be totally predictable. Cham coloration genetics are not as well understood as that of say boids.
