New Tegu!!! WHOOOHOOO! lol

lucy Feb 07, 2003 02:54 PM

Finaly got myself a tegu. I've been keeping reptiles for a long time now but my biggest lizard yet has only been my blue tongue skink. The tegu is an argentine black and white and is a 1 year 3 month old cb female and is around 2.5ft long. I've researched the absolute crap out of these guys but still have a few questions. What does the SDZ diet consist of? Do eggs have to be hard boiled or can they be raw? How often do you feed a sub adult and what percent of their meal should be veggies/meat/insects? I've read A LOT of different things on that last question and am a little stumped on how much of each thing I should feed her. All in all that's about it. She'll be arriving next tuesday. I can't wait! Let me know what you think of her!

the sdz diet is turkey bone meal and calcium you can do a search on sdz diet in the monitor forum and get it. the eggs have to be boiled.

Now why is it that the eggs must be boiled first? I've heard some people say that they should be boiled and some that say it's totally fine for them to eat them raw as long as you don't leave the egg in the cage too long.

The eggs do not have to be boiled or cooked in any way prior to feeding them.

The guy sold her right before I sent him the money (even though she was on hold for me..grrrrr). I might though get a pair of baby 66% poss. het albino blues off him. Are there any signifigant changes in husbandry between blue tegus and black and whites? I know they don't get as big but I haven't read anything different about them when it comes to care. Thanks in advance to any replies

Why would you go back to this person and give him money?
I can be a real jerk when it comes to customer service!
I have dealt with both Ron St. Peirre (rhino iguana)and Bert
Langerwerf (Argentine b&w tegu). Both breed Arg. b&w tegus.
The animals were VERY fairly priced and came in looking great.
Answers to every question were lighting fast both pre & post
purchase. I could not have been more pleased with both of
them. Coming from a jerk like me...that's saying something!

Good luck,

Brian

If you would still like one I have a B/w argentine tegu available. She is 1.5 feet long including the tail. She is very very sweet. Let me know if you are interested.
