Minimum temp? Worried, please help

observer Dec 20, 2004 01:52 PM

Hi;

The heater in my apartment is broken and I'm told it can't be fixed until tomarrow. I have a rough-skinned newt who's water was off the end of the thermometer this morning - I've got myself a space heater for tonight, but I'm stuck at work for another 4 hours or so. Do you think she'll be ok until then? What temp would you regard as dangerous? I could go home and get her but it's over a half hour drive and the temp in the car wouldn't be ideal either. I wouldn't want to stress her out if she's ok where she is. Please let me know what you think.

Thanks

As long as the temps don't go below 50 F in one day it should be fine. Just warm it back up slowly.

Hey, they can toleate really low tempatures, but try not to let it get below 40 F, but not too warm, I hope you don't have a heater in the tank. http://www.caudata.org/cc/species/Taricha/T_granulosa.shtml

I ended up taking her to a friends place Monday as soon as I got home from work and got her back last night. I let it warm up slowly and she's eating and active so I think she'll be ok. Thanks for the advice.
