You'll see cottons and plenty of gators in February. I didn't see any of the others, but I didn't get off the beaten path, either. There is definitely alot of herps to be seen. Very cool place.

Take the hwy out to Tamiami Trail from Miami, its also known as Alligator Alley. This road cuts directly across the Everglades from the Miami area to the west coast, Ft. Myers, Naples, Ten Thousand Islands, anyways get on this road and just stop at any of the dozens of pull offs, turnouts, and camping areas as you go. It is not very good for pulling off if you see something on the Trail itself but it can be done, if the traffic is light. This road cuts across the Corkscrew Swamp also, this is another EXCELLENT place to see EDBs, Indigo, Pygmys, and the like. If I were going down there to see my uncle, that is the first place I would spend some time.
Good Luck! Post any cool pics you get!

Um, Tamiami Trail & Alligator Alley aren't the same roads.

The Trail runs from Miami across the Everglades to Tampa, hence its name. Alligator Alley runs from Fort Liquordale west across the 'glades to just east of Naples. It is State Road 84 at the east end, becomes I-595, then I-75.

Um,you should look at a map, Alligator Alley is also known as Hwy 75, Tamiami Trail is Hwy 41. I was born and raised just east of Pinecrest.
Your map is no good, dont go until you get a new one.

I just read and reread this thread like 3 times.
You corrected Greg to say just what he said in correcting you and then you told him to get a new map?
I'm thinking the folks here have grown some mighty big chips on their shoulders lately.
So the "Ta"mpa-"Miami" Trail is ummmm Hwy 41 and Alligator Alley is known as Hwy 75 for at least part of its total length? Cool.
Maybe we could at least save the argumentative attitudes for something important like whether there really is such a thing as good Brie!

For a biologist that works so closely with F&W, you sure gave alot of info to just about anyone that wants to go catch protected species.....

A couple of things skippy;
1. I hardly gave the GPS fix to my choicest spots.
2. Big Cypress is just that, BIG, if he sees anything he'll be lucky.
3. Any university biology dept. has copies of past theses that are loaded with info. just as most states have programs listing current and historical records for flora and fauna, location, date of observation, even the address.
Quit your bashing, its childish.

I am not bashing..... Realy, I'm not..... Just stating the obvious..... I do not think that kind of info should be put up on a p[ublic forum..... I am positive I am not alone in this feeling.....
