Jeph Jul 03, 2003 02:25 AM

Heres a nice adult male Cal.King that i caught in Verbenia last month. I also caught a female there too-(I'll post her pic and you can see how much of a differnece there is in them, and they were found within a mile of each other. I kept both of them, I hope to breed them in 04 or 05.

Doesn't California completely protect all it's native reptiles now?

Is it still permitted to collect a certain amount of specimens, and if so, is a permit necessary?

I am not sure on the bag limit on cal kings but you can collect them with a fishing license. If you do not not have a fishjing license and et caught with some in your vehicle the warden will take them and issue a ticket. I don't think you need a fishing license to keep them and you can sell the babys or buy them.
There used to be restrictions on size limits of baby snakes but I am not sure if that is still in effect.
Also there are zero restrictions on Cal king morphs (such as amelinism, hypomelanism, lavender, ect) in california.

The same goes for gopher snakes. Pretty much everything else is 2, like rosys, most lizards, although western skinks and all sorts of fence lizards is 25. Zonata is 1, and southern rubber boas is ZERO!.

Cal kings, gophersnakes: You may possess 4 total in the aggregate, with a current Calif Fishing license. I believe this means 4 kings and 0 gophers, or 3 kings and 1 gopher, or 2 kings and 2 gophers, etc. That is my belief anyway. Alot of people mistake this for 4 kings and 4 gophers.

If you buy them from a breeder in Calif who has a Native Cal Reptile Breeder's permit and you get the receipts and RA number for each, you can have as many as you want, and you can sell them if you pass the paperwork along.

You cannot sell CB babies unless you have a breeder's permit. You may give away babies if you don't have a permit.

San Diego Mtn kings are off limits completely, as are any mtn king West of the 5 freeway. Otherwise you may have 1 mtn king with a fishing license. There is no provision for mtn kings being bred with a breeder's permit, so you can't breed them legaly yourself. However, if say your wife has a fishing license as well, she could have a mtn king too I think, unless bag limit means "household" limit. Then, if you bred them you must give away the babies within a certain time period. You can't buy or sell, period.

2 rosy boas with a fishing license. As many as you want if purchased from someone with a breeder's permit (again, you must keep records of who you purchased from and their RA number.)

2 rubber boas (bottae bottae) except for the Southern rubber boa, which you can have none. No provisions for breeding with a permit. If you do, you must give away all animals except for any two. You can't buy or sell RBs, period.
