Thought some of you might like to see what we came up with for a baby dragon with a compound fracture in the upper leg and a hairline fracture in the lower leg.
This baby is not in pain, has been checked by a vet and the brace was designed by a jeweler, the break is aligned, but due to her trying to use it, it kept separating. We needed to immobilize the leg. although the one picture may look like it is tight in one area above the knee, it is very loose, the enlarged area near the knee is swelling from the break, which has gone down since braced. We also designed it so she can not put pressure right now on the foot either.
All evening she has been scooting all over her tank on the loop added to the brace and ate really well tonight. In fact she is moving her leg with the brace from the hip area better than she has since she arrived. This is a very calm baby and as you can see from the photo's, showing little stress.
We do not know how she broke the leg, she was sent by a someone who received several dragons in from a breeder and a few were not healthy. There is already an offer for a home for her when healed, by the vet treating her. She is also on liquid prescription calcium to help the bone mend which the vet thinks will. She might have problems with arthritis in the future, but her new home will be equipted to help her deal with that.
