Behavioral stimulation

matt43 Dec 21, 2004 03:34 AM

So...the zoo in my area does this program with their animals called behavioral stimulation. In short, they try to give the beasts something to do to exercise their minds instead of just sitting there. For example, they might put a treat of some sort into a 20 oz. plastic soda bottle and a monkey has to figure out how to manipulate the bottle correctly so the treat comes out.

Anybody ever done something similar with their tortoise? I'd like to give my leo something stimulating and challenging to do when I can't be with him every second of the day.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I found that by just adding structure to the enclosure that usually gets any tortoise going. You can also scatter their food and make them forage for it.
