Behavioral stimulation

matt43 Dec 21, 2004 03:35 AM

So...the zoo in my area does this program with their animals called behavioral stimulation. In short, they try to give the beasts something to do to exercise their minds instead of just sitting there. For example, they might put a treat of some sort into a 20 oz. plastic soda bottle and a monkey has to figure out how to manipulate the bottle correctly so the treat comes out.

Anybody ever done something similar with their turtles? I'd like to give my sliders something stimulating and challenging to do when I can't be with them every second of the day.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Live food to chase is a good stimulant for them. Some folks also have put ping pong balls in the water. The turtle most likely thinks it's some kind of food and bites at it pushing it around the tank.
