Popping sound respitory illness?

grundor Dec 21, 2004 02:12 PM

I have recently noticed a popping sound whenever my little guy breathes. His weight has not changed in a month and he seems to be as lively as ever. Is this a normal response to winter, or should I be taking him into the vet?

THIS IS COMING FROM MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THE POPPING SOUNDS:

When Orion made popping sounds I thought something was off. No vet near me is experienced or has been taught to deal with reptiles. So I called the person I got him from and he told me it sounded like he had a respiratory infection, probably pneumonia.

I got medicine for him and a in November (like the 8th) he passed away.

I suggest if you have a vet that specializes in reptiles to take your little guy to him. Orion had no changes. Sometimes he shook his head violently from side to side to dislodge stuff in his lungs. If your little guy does this I suggest you take him to the vet ASAP do not wait. In fact take him no so he does not get worse if you suspect he is sick.

One of my baby ornates died a week after receiving her. Unforutnately I took her to the vet too late to do anything - she died on the way home - she was diagnosed with impaction, but I feel I should tell you that she was making that clicking sound the night before, so perhaps there was more wrong with her than just the impaction. However she was very lethargic by this point, was not eating or anything.

Since yours is still active, I would definitely take him to the vet, if possible, to be on the safe side. By the time worse symptoms arise, it might be too late to do anything.

I hate to alarm you incase it is nothing serious, but its always better to be safe than sorry - Good luck, let us know what happens!

The four juvie Hardwickiis I just got do this too, but I've only noticed it when they're upset... they always tend to be upset when being held, anyhow The Saharans aren't big on being held, but they've never made a peep.
As they wake up and get riled up, realizing they've been captured, the breathing goes heavier, abdomen inflates, little popping sounds commence, they lick their lips and two of them have hissed so far. I had to extract one from my finger, but that's only because I was checking to see if and how hard they bite... they do and hard!
I'll probably ask the vet when I visit on Monday morning with the other ones. They seem totally healthy and completely fiesty.

My vets took a look at mine and arrived to the conclusion that the noise (with mine) is just little lizards making little lizard noises. No signs of any infection, unhealth, etc.
