4x4x2 Cage blueprints, tell me wut u think....

funnyman527 Dec 21, 2004 04:06 PM

I'm helping one of my friends build a chameleon cage that is 4 feet tall, 4 feet wide, and 2 feet deep, and here's the "blue prints" that i drew up last night. tell me wut u think about the design so far and if there's anything that u think i shoudl take into consideration.

thanks.

This First picture is of the prefabricated pieces that we'll put together first.
The RED sections on the Top & Bottom Piece are actually the only pieces that aren't already apart of the SIDES.(T&B is being looked at from an airial veiw too)

By the way, for those who liek the design enough to use it, the wood being used is 2 inches x 2 inches. just an FYI. We'll probly use pine, as it is most cost effective. and PVC coated mesh for the screen. I calculated that the whole cage (wood, mesh, screws, staples, etc.) shoudl cost just about $100. And then plants and etc. will be more.

The cage you are using is very similar to the one I built. I am not sure if your making this for inside or outside and if you plan on moving it once in a while but I would also consider making the the cage out of aluminum screen framing. Its the same thing as those $120 cages at the pet store. I found this to be pretty easy to build. This allows to cage to be light weight and movable and easy to break down as well. Each aluminum frame piece is 8ft long and $2 at home depot. The only issue i found with this method has been bending the frame when you put the screen on too tight. Let me know if you want these inscructions.

I like the idea, but then again it's not going to my cage to own, and i think my friend's pretty much got his mind set on building it outta wood, and then staining that wood. But i'll deffinatly mention it to him.

this will be the cage that i posted about earlier, he and i will be building it together. the aluminum sounds like a great idea but i just bought the wood this morning. hopefully itll be done in less than a week, and pics will be taken for those of you who want them.
