Breeding Question?

snakebstr Dec 21, 2004 09:25 PM

I was wondering what the lowest age/weight anyone has bred a male ball python? The reason I am asking is I am cosidering breeding a 3rd male pastel that was born 7-7-04 that makes him around 6 months on jan 7, But the twist is he is 575 grams and growing fast. I am just wondering if anyone has produced good eggs from a male that young? I know the weight is OK but I am wondering about the age? Thanks David

Here are a few pictures of some high yellow babies.

Here comes the $64,000 question: Is he producing sperm plugs? He could be 4000g and 15 years old, if he's not producing sperm, he's as good as a newborn to your breeding project.

It is *possible* to breed at that early age, but
the outcome is usually not nearly as good as if he was
larger and older. Probably wouldn't hurt to try.
Maybe you should use him as a backup to your other
males, if the precise genetics aren't too important
to you. Good luck!
