tegu still not eating much

nogard Dec 22, 2004 12:35 AM

Hello, just got back from the vet and the said he was fine and just out of sync with his metabolism and that he wasnt sick, and he did eat two pinkies yesterday, his temps on basking side is 120 and 86 everywhere else, but he still just diggs down and sleeps, should I wake him up every morning and put him under his basking spot? He seems very alert and hydrated, If he isnt eating tomorrow, what else can I try? Any suggestions?

thanks

Generally you don't want to dig up your tegu. It will come out a some point. Have you tried crickets to get the feeding response up? Wildly hopping crickets and make a stubborn eater take notice and pounce.

I have only had my male blue for a short while now. At first he would only take 2 hoppers. This lasted about a week. Now as of yesterday he'll take as many as 6 in a feeding! He is only 2ft so still has a bit of growing to do! I don't know how large your tegu is but I would maybe try something bigger then a pink like a hopper that moves around alot. The idea of large crickets or Roaches made by Thetegu would also be something that I would try! They do enjoy moving food! My blue wouldn't eat out of my hand or anything, he would only take the one that was running around! He's calmed down enough and has become Comfortable enough now with me to take them out of my hand.
