Sleepy baby dragon

Snakemother Dec 22, 2004 06:16 AM

The baby dragon I got in September is growing (just more slowly than my previous dragon), and eating better. The odd thing is, she won't wake up in the morning unless I take her out of the cage and warm her on my hand. My husband thought I was crazy and just spoiling her, but he watched her all day after her lights were on, and she just slept in the corner. I have to hold her and warm her awhile, put her in a tiny bath to hydrate her, and thhen place her on her log before she'll bask and then eat. Anyone else experience this sort of thing with a baby dragon? Is she just spoiled?
Thanks!

How many times has this happened? Usually my dragon will take a day off since he's so rambunxious he wears himself out every once in awhile and decides that he needs to sleep the whole day.

I was going to say usually with an older bearded or a wild caught that they know its that time of year to go into brumation (where they slow down, don't eat as much and hardly bask and usually just sleep the whole day) but for a baby that's seems weird that he/she knows to brumate. JUST MY OPINION.

If he/she's only doing it once in a great while (maybe once every week) then MAYBE it MIGHT be NORMAL again JUST MY OPINION. As long as he/she is still eating and moving about normally there shouldn't be much to worry about.

IF you want a better opinion, if you have a vet that specializes in herps near you, and you get real worried you can always go to the vet or bring the vet a stool sample from your dragon and get it checked.

Lethargy can be a sign of deficiencies sometimes. Was the dragon healthy and active when you bought it?
