Gonyosoma janseni

nydon Dec 22, 2004 08:22 AM

Back mid December there was some discussion on Gonyosoma janseni. Thought i would throw a few more pics for some food for thought. I think i may have posted this pic a while back. I recieved this female around a year ago and this picture was when she first came to me as a wild caught. She came out of quarantine (spelling?) fine and is eating like a pig. I was told that it was an intergrade between the normal and black phase. I had never seen another like it and I have been trying to find another but will likely breed it to a normal next year.

this is a baby janseni i recieved this past summer.

this is the same baby 2 months ago and it is even blacker now. It will obviously be a black phase janseni but the question someone raised a few months ago about the black phase possibly being oxycephala may have some validity. Especially if you look at the baby picture above which looks more oxycephala than janseni (at least to me). I recieved several other baby janseni recently so it will be interesting to see what they develop into.

Thanks for the pictures. I just got my first group of the regular Black & Tan Janseni and am really starting to like them. I guess the one thing that shocked me was how much bigger they were than G. oxycephala and the black Janseni.

I have two juvenile black janseni that are a bit darker than yours. I'd take some pictures but our digital camera is not very good. I may try anyways.

Are they green in color? I was told by an importer that the regular Janseni are born looking like their parents, not green like black Janseni.
