Question about one of my leo's ;]

S1NPLYS1K Dec 22, 2004 08:44 AM

Hey guys...long time no see ;] anywayz...As you all might know I have 4 leo's...I was running with the assumption that they were all females until recently

1 is about 7-8 months old while the other 3 are relatively the same age (2-3 months)

2 of the younger and the 7 month old tend to stay under the same hide while one of them tends to stay out of all hides and keep to itself

I was told by a local breeder/shop owner that there is a good possibility that it may be a male and he doesn't want to interact with the females for whatever reason he may have...is this true? If so when should I seperate him from the rest of the group? Are there any ways to sex a young gecko before his hemepenes become visible?

THANKS!!

I would lean toward the possibility that it's a personality issue, or even intimidation by the other three more than I would think it's related to sex. I would seperate either way for a little bit.

I had two "females" together. When it was feeding time they were getting rather nasty, aggressive towards each other. (They were about 6 months old). I had been checking them about once a month to be sure they were females. I checked again - sure enough both were males! (And I seperated them right away!)
What you describe could be merely personality differences. Some are more social, some keep to themselves. Some prefer the humid hide all the time, some prefer someplace else. A couple of things to watch for - certainly aggressive behavior. If you see one bullying another, time to seperate. Also, are all you leo's together? Your older ones may be too big to be with the younger ones.
Anyway, it doesn't matter what they were incubated to be, keep checking your new babies until they are old enough that you can be sure they are male or female.
Good luck!
