I was wondering, since you said you had a vet appointment yesterday evening, if you now know what is wrong with your little uro.

I hope everything turns out fine. I also hope the little guy/gal gets better and is never sick again.

Whenever you get the chance to post could you tell me what happened?

It's always sad when a little reptile is sick, even if it is not your own.

Hi there!

I updated my thread below last night.

The dr. found worms and put him on a once-weekly (3-4 treatment) deworming medication. I failed to get details while I was there, but I just called and apparently he has strongyle eggs and the girl who was looking at his chart over the phone then said it might be roundworm. He's being treated with Panacur.

I'm hoping this is the correct diagnosis and that he will get well again. With the help of some more experienced Uro keepers, I'm looking into other possibilities and any side effects of the meds I'm going to need to watch out for.

No problem. I just want to make sure no one has any death in their reptilian family over the holiday weekend.

Although that may be the case with my littlest uro, Iris.

Iris has pneumonia. I suspect she got it before I could separate her from Orion(he already died last month). She seems a little better but even with the medicine I do not think she's going to make it to 2005.

It's sad and there is no herp specialist (or even a reputable one that knows even the remotest about these animals) in the tri-county area.

I hope that with the medicine she will get better, but even when I gave it to Orion, it didn't help and he still passed away within 2 weeks of doing it.

I just hope the person who's reptile on this board is doing it gets him to the vet fast enough to get the little guy treated.

Keeping my fingers crossed that Iris pulls through!

Any idea what causes/caused the pneumonia in Orion and now Isis?

Well I first got Phoebe and Orion. Phoebe was sick when I got her and by the time I figured out what could've been wrong with her and by the time the guy I got her from was able to call back she had died. So he sent me Iris. I think that Orion got it from Phoebe. I hear that sometimes pneumonia can sit for up to 2 months without presenting any symptoms and by then it's too late.

Well Orion got sick, and the guy gave me meds for him. Med's didn't help and he passed on November 7 at 5:10 pm central time.

Now Iris is sick and I suspect she got it from Orion before I could seperate the two.

I'm giving her a tiny bit of medicine every day, it doesn't seem to help a whole lot. I just hope she makes it through the holiday seasons but by the looks of it now she might not even make it through christmas.

They say that when you lose a loved one(human or animal) it leaves a void in your heart that can never be filled again, and I used to believe that wasn't true, but now I am beginning to believe it is.

Thanx for the info. There are so many unknowns with these pets that every bit helps. I sure feel for u not having a vet that can help u out better. You have been through so much the past few months with your losses. It takes a strong person to pull through and not give up and that sounds like u. Iris sounds like a fighter and must get that from u!

Concerning mouth to mouth... Audrey Vanderlinden sent me a care pack with info for when Luca arrives. In it there is a reprint of a wonderful article that mentions how when a 4 month old Uro seemed to have 'lost it' Audrey gave the Uro mouth to mouth and saved it!!! I am convinced that she is a totally amazing person!

Never underestimate what we can do for our beloved pets!

Iris is a little fighter. And the day it looks like she's gonna go, I'm gonna sit there and whenever it looks like she's gone, I'm gonna do mouth to mouth just so I can save her.

I'm not going to give up on saharan's totally. I'll probably get one a long time from now. Maybe when I've settled into an apartment of my own where I get my job at. But if Iris goes, I'll probably take a break from saharan uro's for a couple years.
